Balsamic Vinegar...What's it For?

Ok - all you good cooks out there - what do you use balsamic vinegar for?

I bought a bottle because it has a Weight Watchers points value of zero - which means I can eat as much of it as I like. I tried shaking it over my salad yesterday as a salad dressing - and it was horrible. It ruined what was otherwise a perfectly good lettuce leaf.

So - what are you meant to do with this stuff? Low calories suggestions only please! (preferably with Weight Watchers points value of zero).

"two parts olive oil, one part balsamic vinegar" makes a nice dressing, but you only want a teaspoon per serving as the taste is fairly intense. Think of it like Lea and Perrins, just a dash does wonders. Or try balsamic vinegar, oil and honey.

Thanks - this sounds better than balsamic vinegar on its own.

Are there any calorie-free additions I can try as well?

Thanks! - this is great. I'm not really a huge fan of mustard (actually - i hate it - it's up there with meat - no - more like ketchup - worse than meat...I'd rather eat meat..and I'm a veggitian) - so could I use chillies instead? If so - how many, roughly?

But I guess the biggest problem is - finding four people who'd want to have dinner with me - well all at the same time anyway!

A little olive oil (extra virgin for salad). 1 Teaspoon Balasmico di Modena. Salad leaves of lettuce with rocket. 1 glass of lambrusco di Modena.

Agree with Mat. A lilttle goes a very long way. Some of the best can cost you £250!!!

Aha! I think what I bought was more like £2.50p. I like the idea of mixing it in with some driver's wine though - sound interesting!
